USNT Welcomes New USNTDA Head Coach, USNT Assistant Manager

The US National Team (USNT) program has brought on a new USNTDA head coach and a USNT assistant manager.

The US National Team (USNT) program has brought on a new USNTDA head coach and a USNT assistant manager.

In October, the USNT Developmental Academy (USNTDA) traveled to Quadball Nations Cup II in Salou, Spain and returned with their first international gold medal. Amanda Dallas served as the interim head coach for the event, supported by assistant coaches Jack Levy and Kennedy Murphy.

“Dallas did a tremendous job at Quadball Nations Cup and was able to go undefeated with the DA and bring home the gold. We appreciate her willingness to serve as interim for the one event. The program will miss her wealth of knowledge and leadership, we hope for the best in her future endeavors,” said USNT Manager Hanna Reese.

As previously mentioned, the goal was to promote one of the assistant coaches to the head coach role following the event in October. Jack Levy was selected as the next USNTDA head coach. Murphy will continue in her role as USNTDA assistant coach.

“At the Quadball Nations Cup and in his past work with Michigan University and the Detroit Innovators, Jack demonstrated he has what it takes to lead the next generation of quadball athletes. His passion for the sport is seemingly unmatched and he brings a fresh, new perspective to the program,” said USNT Head Coach Michael “Yada” Parada.

The program has also recruited seasoned MLQ manager Joan Boyes to serve as the USNT assistant manager.

Boyes has been an involved member of the quadball community since 2018 when she joined SHSU Quadball’s A-Team. She has served as president and manager of SHSU, president and manager of the Texas Copperheads, and manager for both the Houston Legends and San Antonio Soldados. While attending the Quadball Nations Cup, Boyes went out of her way to assist Reese throughout the tournament.

“Joan is quickly becoming a key organizer in the sport. Her can-do attitude, quick thinking, and willingness to learn makes her the ideal candidate for an assistant manager role. I’m excited to further my working relationship with her!” Reese said.

Parada will continue in his role as the USNT head coach, supported by assistant coaches Jackson Johnson and Ethan Sturm. Reese will continue in her role as USNT manager.

USNT Program to Implement Three Max Policy in All Future Competitions

The US National Team program is excited to announce they will be playing all games moving forward with a maximum of three players of a single gender on pitch during the seeker floor, and a maximum of four players of a single gender on pitch with seekers on the field.

The US National Team program is excited to announce that both the USNT and USNT Developmental Academy will be playing all games moving forward with a maximum of three players of a single gender on pitch during the seeker floor, and a maximum of four players of a single gender on pitch with seekers on the field. This will go into effect immediately.

The leadership of the USNT program has been watching the growing fervor both internationally and domestically for a more inclusive quadball product on pitch for women and gender non-conforming athletes, and decided that as the premier quadball team in the U.S., it was our job to be the first to formally present that future in our country.

“The U.S. has some of the most talented women and gender non-conforming athletes in the sport, and we look forward to the opportunities this policy adjustment will unlock for our program and to developing and nurturing those that seize them,” said USNT Head Coach Michael Parada.

We are thrilled to join national team programs including the likes of Austria, Australia, and Canada, who committed to doing so for the entirety of the 2023 IQA World Cup. We also stand with other national teams in calling for the IQA to ratify this new rule in its 2024 rulebook. While we acknowledge we are a cycle behind some of these programs in making the shift, we hope that the weight of the USNT program can still help to further push the international game to a new standard of practice.

The USNT will make use of training camps and roster additions to better prepare the standing team to thrive under this ruleset, with the goal, as always, to continue to stay golden. Please look out for more information on camps in the months to come. We thank you for your continued support for this program.

US National Team Partners with Breakmark, Support a Player Now Live

The US National Team program is partnering with Breakmark, an athletic apparel company, for the 2023 IQA World Cup season.

The US National Team program is partnering with Breakmark, an athletic apparel company, for the 2023 IQA World Cup season.

Breakmark will provide the US National Team (USNT) and US National Team Developmental Academy (USNTDA) with new uniforms and practice apparel. The apparel company is also hosting the program’s Support a Player shop and online store at Breakmark.com.

Breakmark was started in 2005 and has been focused predominantly on producing apparel for the ultimate community, including the Western Ultimate League and three franchises in the Premier Ultimate League.

“We are looking to show the athletic world what we can do, and quadball seems like a natural progression. There is a lot of carryover from what we have done in the ultimate world for the past 15+ years, and we think we can build on that success with quadball teams,” said Mathew Goldblatt, owner of Breakmark.

The USNT is headed to the IQA World Cup in Richmond, Va. on July 15-16 in the hopes of defending their gold medal status. The team is currently the winningest national team in IQA history.

“The theme for this season is ‘Stay Golden’ and we’re excited to introduce a pair of kits and a warmup that reflect this while also incorporating some more traditional American symbolism and uniform trends,” said USNT Manager Amanda Dallas.

The Support a Player program is now live and will close June 5. The purpose of this program is to help USNT and USNTDA athletes cover costs associated with the IQA World Cup, including but not limited to hotel and transportation. Each athlete will have five replica warmups available for purchase and $100 from each sale will be donated directly to that athlete or their indicated recipient. These replicas will only be available for purchase via the Support a Player program.

The USNT store will launch Friday, June 2. Order by Wednesday, June 7 to receive your merchandise in time for the IQA World Cup. If you would like to support the athletes in other ways, you can donate to the USNT and USNTDA via their donation cart

Don’t forget to grab your tickets to root for the home team in Richmond, Va. July 15-16. They are available for purchase here and at the gate.

Quadball to Air Live on National TV for First Time

Exhibition matches will be first games played under new name quadball.

The sport inspired by quidditch will air live on national TV for the first time next week.

A quadball match between the United States National Team (USNT) and the United States National Team Developmental Academy (USNTDA) will be featured on ESPN2 as part of the sixth year of ESPN8: The Ocho on Friday, Aug. 5. The game will take place at noon EST at Manchester Meadows Park in Rock Hill, S.C. on the Visit Howard County Pitch.

The exhibition will be the first official match played under the new name. Last week, the governing bodies of the sport announced that they would rebrand the game as quadball to distance themselves from J.K. Rowling and open sponsorship and broadcast opportunities. The new name refers to the number of balls and the number of positions in the sport.

The sport was originally adapted from the Harry Potter book series in 2005 at Middlebury College in Vermont by Xander Manshel and Alex Benepe. It has since exploded in popularity across the country and around the world and is now played by nearly 600 teams in 40 countries.

The game aired live locally in northwest Ohio on Buckeye Cable Sports Network in 2015 and a national network, Eleven Sports, featured matches on tape delay in 2017 and 2018 but the sport has never been televised live to a national audience before in the United States. It has also never appeared on the ESPN networks.

The exhibition will be part of a three-team tournament between the USNT, the USNTDA and Team Canada. The USNT is a standing roster of the best quadball players in the country. The USNTDA is a standing roster of players who the coaches of the national team program have scouted to have potential as national team players in the future. Team Canada is a standing roster of the best players north of the border. Tickets are available here. You can donate to our fundraiser here.

“Being on ESPN is a dream for so many of our athletes and I’m thrilled they’ll be able to showcase all of their hard work,” said USNT Head Coach Michael Parada. “I’m also very excited for all the members and staff of the USNT and USNTDA to be a part of this moment in quadball history.”

The event is sponsored by Hit Your Mark Productions, Jake Sudnick - Cleveland Realtor, Levio Learning, Round Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau, Shooty Hoops, Sports Salt Lake, and Visit Howard County. If interested in sponsoring, please contact megan.anderson@usquidditch.org.
